Bibbity-Bobbity-Boo!

I found this on the internet, and I liked it so much, I wanted to share it.

I absolutely agree with this depiction of spell-work; it is well said and to the point – could not have explained it better myself! And, I hear you out there, “Sure. Okay. Yeah. And?” Just goes to show how well you know me – here’s the AND:

THE EXACT SAME EXPLANATION APPLIES TO

  • Wishes (Candles on your birthday cake?)
  • Dreams (Read The Secret?)
  • Prayer (Candle in front of a statue?)

The truth is, we are up to our eyeballs in spell-work all of the time. Every time you think about what you want in a serious way, fully forming it in your mind as you would like it to be, your visualization is an act of creation. Imagining rock-star parking at your favorite restaurant, when BEHOLD! there it is! Luck? Coincidence? Magic? Who’s to say.

Which brings me to the important part of our message:

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, FOR SURELY YOU WILL GET IT!

If ever there were words of wisdom that should be lived on a daily basis (second only to “Do no harm” on the OMG IMPORTANT Meter), those are the words – in that order! The fantastic truth is we can create whatever we want; the real truth is it may not be exactly what we think it is. There is a fine line between Famous and Infamous – what is it you REALLY want?

Make sure you know before you start because you cannot unring a bell.

When this guy shows up, know there is much work to be done and you have what it takes to make a difference. If the negative voices in your head are telling you:

  • “You can’t.”
  • “It won’t matter.”
  • “It’s too late.”
  • “It’s too big.”
  • “I don’t want to.”

This is the time to tell them to sit down and shut up – you do not need them. They are not in charge. THEY ARE VERY WRONG. The Magician brings can-do energy backed by wisdom, determination and an earnest desire to bring about change. Use this energy wisely to make changes in your own life (home, work, relationships) or on the larger stage (politics, charities, advocacy).

CAUTION: You will be responsible for change you create; do not be afraid, be mindful.

IMBOLC WEEKEND: 01/29-02/01/16

Things are warming up…on the inside, anyway.

Selene's avatarThe Urban Taroist

((The Steampunk Tarot, Moore and Fell))

Have you recovered from the holidays? Good! Imbolc is upon us!

The mid-way point between Winter Solstice (Yule) and Spring Equinox (Ostara), a lovely reminder Winter cannot last forever, try though it might to make us feel it is so.

Winter is half over! How will you spend the remaining time? The cards above suggest the time is well-spent taking positive care of ourselves and our home; have you been eating too many winter comfort foods, drinking too much spiked coffee, or ignoring your exercise routine? Start taking better care of yourself, your home and your family.

Consider turning some traditional Imbolc rituals into activities preparing for the coming Spring:

FEASTING (on healthy meals): Are you eating at the table with your family? Plan some healthy family meals to be prepared and shared – on the weekend if that is the only time available…

OF COURSE YOU CAN!!!!! And you will.

Balance is critical to most things, and your current projects are no exception. The key to the success of this energy is the momentum of the forward motion; this is a critical time, stopping is ill-advised – adjust your speed as needed!

If you think you can, you can. But if you think you can’t, you’re right. Do not be your own worst enemy; guard your self-talk – because you are listening!!

We’ve been discussing new ideas, new pathways, new plans and new movement. There have been some difficulties, doubts, double-backs, and second guesses. There may even have been some “waiting out” of the Mercury Retrograde (MRx) that began with a shadow on the fourth, and concluded with an almost audible sigh of relief as Mercury went direct today. That was fine – needs must, etc.

However, it is now – RIGHT NOW – that we must pull on our traveling boots and move it out. One hundred per cent commitment, bag and baggage, RIGHT NOW.

I know you are out there, I can hear you gasping:

  • “Now is not the right time.” INVALID: “the right” anything is a fallacy. “Close enough” is the best you can ever hope to achieve. Stop stalling.

Full Moon, February 2016: The Wolf’s Moon

Hierophant Steam

KP SteamPgP Steam

((Read cards left to right, bottom to top. The Steampunk Tarot by Moore and Fell))

The cards above remind us of the importance of pacing ourselves; the piper must always be paid, be prepared before you dance. Grasshopper or ant? Doesn’t really matter, the result is the same; Summer parties into Fall, and suddenly it is Winter – time flies whether or not you are having fun and you must be prepared to hunker down when the time comes. Be ready to be safe, warm, and well in your own physical space.

This blog is published in Chicago, Illinois, USA – also commonly referred to as “The American Midwest” – and in January, it is cold, dark and bitter with high temperatures in single digits (when not impacted by windchill…which it always is), lots of layers of clothing, and cars reluctant to start. Some places have an easier Winter, others have a much harder time but overall,  January’s Wolf Moon marks a difficult time for many.

THE GOOD NEWS: You have an annual opportunity to make good use of the Wolf’s energy for your own growth. Take a moment to think about wolves and the lessons they can teach us to improve our relationships, communications, and understandings.

Non-verbal cues: Most communication within the pack is non-verbal; facial expressions and body language are used for everything from conveying discipline to expressing pleasure. Now, think about your own body language* and facial expression? Do you have a “Resting Bitch Face” or do you appear pleasant and approachable? Personally, I know myself to be quite approachable but I am told I often sport RBF (usually while taking a mental inventory for a shopping list, my son assures me I appear to be planning a homicide – alas!). I work on this because I am approachable and I want people to know. Conduct a little experiment for yourself; watch yourself in the mirror while speaking on the phone. What do your face and body convey? Is it the same for a friend, significant other, or mother-in-law? (*Google Body Language and check out the common messages we send inadvertently every day.)

Group cooperation: Wolves work together – the survival of the pack depends upon it. Group cooperation plays a large part in our own everyday lives; parents work, grandparents watch children, children have chores – whatever your family’s structure, every member is important and has a part to play. Take a look around, thank your family members for their contributions and remind them it is your honor and privilege to contribute as well.

Heed the elders: Experience is invaluable and your tribe includes people of varying ages and experiences – do not waste these precious resources! Ask questions, listen to stories, seek out recipes or craft-work instruction – be a sponge and absorb as much of the information as they are willing and able to share. If you do not, there will certainly come a day when you will wish you had.

Honor traditions: This is part of the previous two lessons – group cooperation and heeding the elders – and may be the most important. Honor and preserve the traditions of your family (your tribe, your people, your church – however you self-identify community); as common as baking holiday cookies and tree trimming parties,  or as silly as Polar Bear Plunges (which I do not recommend – not judging if it is your thing, however). Customs, traditions, celebrations and milestones bind us to each other, keeping us warm.

Warm your heart – howl at the Moon!!

REVIEW: I Love Alice’s Snyder House!

AliceGalena

Alice’s Snyder House, Galena, Illinois. The original main structure was built in the mid-1850s; the new addition built in 1915.

LOOK AT IT!!! GORGEOUS, RIGHT????

You don’t know the half of it! We just got back and I’m already planning my next visit!!  It is beautifully decorated in every space – every lovely piece of furniture comfortable and begging you to sit down with a friend or curl up with a book. I have never felt so at home in someone else’s space before – it felt amazing!

Joan and Dave, proud innkeepers, showing off a beautifully cozy dining room..

We can thank our fabulous innkeepers, Joan and Dave, for the wonderful feeling of home; warm and welcoming, attentive but not intrusive, friendly but never pushy.

Let’s talk bed: The rooms, in addition to beautifully decorated, are incredibly comfortable. The bed itself was perfect (not too firm as in some hotels and not too soft) and inviting in every way. There were plenty of pillows and blankets, and HEATED MATTRESS PADS!!! It was incredibly cozy, warm and peaceful. I sometimes have difficulty sleeping in strange places – not here! Not at all!!

Let’s talk breakfast: Joan admits she has breakfast down to a science, and that is no joke! Breakfast was mouthwateringly amazing both mornings; dutch babies with cinnamon apples, biscuits and gravy, apple-cream cheese coffee cake – YOWZA!!!!

WHERE ARE THE PICTURES?????

With regret, I admit I did not take pictures of the rooms (so comfortable you would have wanted an immediate nap!) or the luscious breakfasts (your mouth would certainly have watered!). My sincere apologies; you will need to take my word for it. Better yet, discover for yourself! Give Joan and Dave a call – they would love to hear from you!
