Alice’s Snyder House, Galena, Illinois. The original main structure was built in the mid-1850s; the new addition built in 1915.
LOOK AT IT!!! GORGEOUS, RIGHT????
You don’t know the half of it! We just got back and I’m already planning my next visit!! It is beautifully decorated in every space – every lovely piece of furniture comfortable and begging you to sit down with a friend or curl up with a book. I have never felt so at home in someone else’s space before – it felt amazing!

Joan and Dave, proud innkeepers, showing off a beautifully cozy dining room..
We can thank our fabulous innkeepers, Joan and Dave, for the wonderful feeling of home; warm and welcoming, attentive but not intrusive, friendly but never pushy.
Let’s talk bed: The rooms, in addition to beautifully decorated, are incredibly comfortable. The bed itself was perfect (not too firm as in some hotels and not too soft) and inviting in every way. There were plenty of pillows and blankets, and HEATED MATTRESS PADS!!! It was incredibly cozy, warm and peaceful. I sometimes have difficulty sleeping in strange places – not here! Not at all!!
Let’s talk breakfast: Joan admits she has breakfast down to a science, and that is no joke! Breakfast was mouthwateringly amazing both mornings; dutch babies with cinnamon apples, biscuits and gravy, apple-cream cheese coffee cake – YOWZA!!!!
WHERE ARE THE PICTURES?????
With regret, I admit I did not take pictures of the rooms (so comfortable you would have wanted an immediate nap!) or the luscious breakfasts (your mouth would certainly have watered!). My sincere apologies; you will need to take my word for it. Better yet, discover for yourself! Give Joan and Dave a call – they would love to hear from you!
